Connelly Craft Boats (2)

We had a tendency to buy our next boat before we sold the last and that was the same when I fell in love with a 21 ft Connelly Craft.

They were designed and built by Roger Connelly over East and were well known for their Ski Racing ability especially on the Hawkesbury River. They came in 17ft, 19ft and the new 21footer, which was designed for offshore Ski Racing.

The 2100 Connelly Craft stats are: Overall length: 6.445m. Beam: 2.133m. Weight (hull only): 498kg. Max Rated Power: Unlimited. Construction: GRP Sandwich. Fuel: 210 litres. Price (without motor, gauges etc): $12,700.

I ordered the 21 footer which arrived around September 1987 and got Hayway Marine to bolt a 300hp Johnson V8 GT 2 Stroke 300HP Outboard on the back.

A Johnson Outboard add at the time (1987) states that The 3.6GT, tuned for high performance hulls, is the fastest stock outboard in the world. In nine speed tests conducted by American Trailer Boats magazine, this 3.6 litre powerhouse easily outran Mercury's biggest, the 275 Black Max, winning all nine events. Power steering is standard equipment. Rated horsepower is produced at the prop shaft. Recommended retail: $22,000.

Then you had to get a trailer.

Now this was a serious boat.

You could carry 2 people up front in the very comfortable bucket seats and 4 across the rear seat which covered a huge esky. You could also put another 4 people on the floor in beanbags if you wanted to!! There was a ton of storage area down the sides and up front as well.
