I started off playing Australian Rules Football and Tennis but I suppose that it was inevitable that I would take up Cycle Racing as my Dad's brother, my uncle Dan Dwyer, was involved in Track and road cycling back in the 1930's.

Uncle Dan Dwyer did very well and he and Dad were able to 'Bum' around on prize money back then. I have heard that they did ride fairly long distances on the top of trains rather than in them. Uncle Dan passed away recently due to bowel cancer. My Dad died of cancer at the age of 61. Photo is of uncle Dan left and Dad - two dapper lads on the golf course.

Art Hall practicing standing starts. Several of these, with many sprints, and hard and fast riding constitute only part of his every day training.             Click >>>>

This is an excerpt from a newspaper article of the time.

An ex-amateur, Dwyer has many fine performances to his credit. Among these may be mentioned the amateur Wilson 50-mile, fourth place in the Northam to Perth road race (the outstanding amateur event of the local year) second place in the York mile and third place in the York mile.

In the Collie-Donnybrook race last year he registered a truly remarkable performance.

He fell twice and punctured twice, caught up to the front of the field and punctured again. For the last four miles of that gruelling contest he rode on a flat tyre and finished in fifth place. and smashed all time records for the race.
