A Bloody Paraplegic's Story.

My first Car & Drag Racing (3)

Photo's below were the result of my tipping the car on it's lid after a Drag Meet at Caversham. I was taking a person I hardly knew for a ride and it cost me dearly. Thank God Stephanie wasn't in the car at the time.

I broke my left leg in the accident and would eventually lose the right one because I got a hairline fracture in the hip area. This became infected and osteomyalitis (bone infection) set in so I had to have a hindquarter amputation to save my life. The news that they were going to take my leg off actually effected me more, at that time, than getting the original news that I was never going to walk again.

Dad bought another body for the rebuild but I can't remember a thing about this particular time unfortunately. I vaguely recollect Dad letting me drive his Customline which I slammed into a tree before I got my EH Holden.

This was another photo taken for a newspaper story.
Cornell Follinus is in the car. #Note that this one has a vinyl roof.
Not sure where that fits in in the order of things but I am pretty sure I was driving the EH Holden on the road and using this for racing.

My dad has had a number of cars but I don't have the full list.

The little Ford was a heap of fun and I learnt to drive in it at a very early age.

The Customline below was his pride and joy and he let me borrow that after I tipped the FX over. I went and slammed it into a tree. Not very proud of that moment!

He also let me borrow the Plymouth Belvedere which I used to drive with cricket bat.
